Biography
Gwen Johansson, a dedicated advocate for sustainable energy and community development, is the candidate for Prince George-Valemount. Born and raised in McBride, Gwen’s deep connection to the region has shaped her career and commitment to public service. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Education from UBC and a Master’s from the University of Oregon, Gwen worked as a teacher in various communities across British Columbia before settling in Hudson’s Hope.
For 22 years, she served on the Hudson’s Hope municipal council, including six years as Mayor. During her tenure, she led several transformative initiatives, such as installing solar panels on all municipal buildings and improving local infrastructure. With a strong focus on fiscal responsibility, all projects were completed within budget.
Gwen’s leadership extended beyond local government. Her expertise in energy policy, particularly in relation to BC’s oil, gas, and hydroelectric resources, earned her appointments to the BC Energy Council, the BC Hydro Board of Directors, and the Energy & Mines Advisory Committee. Her background in energy policy and municipal governance makes her a strong advocate for sustainable development and the interests of northern British Columbia.
