This is Kaelem Tingate’s first election. He is the youngest candidate in the riding, bringing a new perspective and voice for younger generations. As a Memorial University of Newfoundland student, Kaelem studies Philosophy and Communications. He lives in St. John’s with three roommates and works as a journalist with Memorial’s student newspaper. In the summers, he works as a bartender and assistant distiller.
Outside of work, Kaelem is passionate about urban sustainability—brewing his own beer and wine, in addition to small-scale gardening, primarily focused on leafy greens and mushrooms. When he’s not working or studying he’s hiking, backpacking, or snowboarding. And according to him, “Although I am originally from BC, Newfoundland is my home, and I wouldn’t wanna be anywhere else.”
Kaelem’s campaign is about political transparency, protecting Newfoundland’s environment, and giving Newfoundlanders the representation they deserve.
The federal government has failed Newfoundland; people face homelessness, unemployment, and all-time lows in mental health, all while large corporations take advantage of Newfoundlanders and their natural resources. Other parties haven’t represented the people of Cape Spear, so Kaelem is in the riding to fight for Newfoundlanders and do so transparently. He may not be a conventional politician, but he brings a fresh perspective and is here to fight for you!
