Biography
Simon de Weerdt, the BC Greens Candidate for Vancouver-Strathcona, is a dedicated community member with a strong background in both technology and public service. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of British Columbia, earned while working as a Teaching Assistant and a Systems Analyst. His career includes experience in technology firms and developing software, alongside entrepreneurial ventures in real estate and home automation.
Beyond his professional achievements, Simon has been an active community volunteer, coaching youth sports and serving in various roles in his children’s Parent Advisory Council. His passion for public service grew during his 13 years as a Vancouver City bus driver, where he enjoyed working directly with the public. Simon’s commitment to healthier lifestyles is exemplified by completing the Iron Man triathlon in 2010.
In 2019, he took his advocacy further by running for Director of Metropolitan Area A, engaging with voters and advocating for better solutions. Simon’s technical acumen is reflected in his successful implementation of an EV charging station project and his private technical work, including obtaining a U.S. patent.
Simon de Weerdt is running to create a future where sustainable living and strong community services are accessible to all. His blend of technical knowledge, community involvement, and passion for public service make him a compelling candidate for Vancouver-Strathcona.
